Michael Richard Payne is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Gedling since 2024. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, he was a Nottinghamshire County councillor and served as the deputy leader of Gedling Borough Council. He also held a national leadership role within the Local Government Association’s Labour Group for seven years. In May 2026, he was appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Home Office. Payne is a graduate of Lancaster University, where he previously served as the president of the students' union.
