Born and raised in Elmont, New York, she holds a bachelor's degree from Hofstra University. Before her election, she worked as a supervisor of access services at Hofstra's Axinn Library and as a legislative aide. As a legislator, she serves as the Deputy Majority Leader and chairs the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus. Solages is noted for being the first person of Haitian descent elected to the New York State Assembly and has championed legislation such as the prohibition of virginity tests.
