Micheál Martin

Micheál Martin is an Irish politician who has served as Taoiseach since January 2025, a post he also held from 2020 to 2022. He has led Fianna Fáil since 2011 and has represented Cork South-Central in Dáil Éireann since 1989. Between 2022 and 2025 he served as Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence. A former teacher, he was Lord Mayor of Cork in 1992-93 and has held the education, health, and enterprise portfolios in cabinet; as Minister for Health he introduced Ireland's 2004 workplace smoking ban, the first nationwide ban of its kind in the world.
