Michel Barnier is a veteran French statesman and member of the National Assembly. A prominent figure in Gaullist politics, he has held numerous ministerial positions, including Minister of the Environment, Foreign Affairs, and Agriculture. He served as the European Commissioner for Regional Policy and later for Internal Market and Services, and notably acted as the European Union's chief negotiator for Brexit. In 2024, he served briefly as the Prime Minister of France. Following a 2025 legislative by-election, he returned to the National Assembly.
