Izumi Miyazaki

Izumi Miyazaki is a Japanese politician currently serving as the 23rd Governor of Wakayama Prefecture. Born in Wakayama City in 1959, he graduated from Osaka University and began his career at the Wakayama Prefectural Government in 1982. Over his long administrative career, he held various key positions, including head of the personnel division and chief of the governor's office. He served as the Superintendent of Education for Wakayama Prefecture from 2019 to 2025 and subsequently as Vice Governor. Following the sudden passing of Governor Shuhei Kishimoto in April 2025, Miyazaki served as acting governor before winning the gubernatorial election in June 2025 with broad support from multiple political parties.
