Before entering politics, she worked as a career official at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, where she held various roles including assistant director positions. Following her departure from the ministry, she worked as a policy consultant for a startup company. A mother of four, Morihara entered the civil service as a single mother to support her family. She was elected to the Diet in the 2026 general election and is a member of the Aso faction within the Liberal Democratic Party.
