Representing the Itahar Assembly constituency in the Uttar Dinajpur district, he was elected to office in the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election as a candidate for the All India Trinamool Congress. Hussen secured his seat by defeating his nearest rival, Amit Kumar Kundu of the Bharatiya Janata Party, by a significant margin of 43,975 votes. He is a native of Itahar and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gour Mahavidyalaya.
