Navnit Dholakia, Baron Dholakia is a British Liberal Democrat politician and a life peer in the House of Lords. Born in Tanzania in 1937, he moved to Britain to study at Brighton Technical College and began his career as a medical laboratory technician. He served as a councillor for Brighton Borough Council in the 1960s and later held significant roles in the Commission for Racial Equality and various police authorities. Created a life peer in 1997, he has served as a Liberal Democrat whip, Home Affairs Spokesman, and President of the Liberal Democrats. Throughout his career, he has been a prominent advocate for race relations and penal reform, earning numerous honours including an OBE and appointment to the Privy Council.
