Previously, Kerr was a long-time member of the Scottish Conservative Party, where he served as a councillor for Shettleston on the Glasgow City Council and as the leader of the Conservative group on the council from 2019 to 2025. He defected to Reform UK in early 2025, citing a lack of positive vision within the Conservative Party. Raised in Cranhill, Glasgow, Kerr has been involved in local politics since his youth and has contested multiple parliamentary elections throughout his career.
