Noriko Suematsu is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Suzuka City in Mie Prefecture. First elected in 2011, she became the first female mayor in the Chubu region. Before her mayoral career, she served two terms as a member of the Mie Prefectural Assembly, having been first elected in 2003. A single mother, she has been a vocal advocate for gender equality and public welfare, notably implementing full school lunch programs in Suzuka's municipal junior high schools in 2015. She previously worked in the landscaping industry before entering politics.
