Hisashi Tokunaga is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Omihachiman. A graduate of Waseda University and the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, he previously served as a member of the Shiga Prefectural Assembly, a member of the House of Councillors, and a member of the House of Representatives. During his time in national politics, he held the position of Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs under the Kan Cabinet. Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for the conservation of Lake Biwa and has held various leadership roles within the Democratic Party of Japan and later the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. In 2026, he was elected Mayor of Omihachiman as an independent candidate.
