Koya Sumida is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Maibara City in Shiga Prefecture. Born in 1972, he graduated from Keio University's Faculty of Law before working at a private cram school and serving as a secretary to a member of the House of Representatives. Sumida was first elected to the Shiga Prefectural Assembly in 2015, where he served three terms and held various leadership roles, including chairing committees on sports promotion and regional development. In 2024, he resigned from the prefectural assembly to run for mayor and was elected unopposed to his current position. He holds professional qualifications as an administrative scrivener and real estate broker.
