Philip Baruth

Philip Baruth is an American politician, novelist, and professor serving as the President Pro Tempore of the Vermont Senate. First elected to the state senate in 2010, he has represented the Chittenden-Central district and previously served as Senate Majority Leader from 2013 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, Baruth is noted for his advocacy on gun control legislation and paid sick leave. Beyond his political career, he is a professor of English at the University of Vermont and an accomplished author of several novels and a biography of Senator Patrick Leahy.
