Prasun Banerjee is an Indian politician and former professional footballer who currently serves as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha representing Howrah. A celebrated athlete, he captained the India national football team and was the recipient of the Arjuna Award in 1979. He made history in 2013 by becoming the first professional footballer to be elected to the Indian Parliament. In June 2026, he was among a group of MPs who declared their departure from the Trinamool Congress to join the Nationalist Citizen Party of India.
