Born in Brecon, Wales, she studied agriculture at Harper Adams University and previously worked as an agronomist. Before her current constituency role, she served as a list MSP for the South Scotland region starting in 2016. Throughout her parliamentary career, Hamilton has held various shadow cabinet positions, including roles covering rural economy, tourism, social security, and equalities.
