Rainer Schmeltzer is a German politician and a long-serving member of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia, where he currently serves as the First Vice President. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) since 1977, he has represented the constituency of Unna II since 2005. Previously, he served as the Minister for Labour, Integration and Social Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2015 to 2017. Before his full-time political career, he worked in the housing industry and as a trade union secretary.
