Born on May 20, 1963, in Supaul, Bihar, he is the son of the late farmer Saryug Kamat. Kamat earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bharat Sewak Samaj College in 1988. He was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2020 representing the Janata Dal (United) and successfully secured re-election in 2025.
