Raphael Schäfer is a German politician and member of the Landtag of Saarland, representing the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Born in 1981 in Saarlouis, he holds a degree in public administration. Before his election to the state parliament in 2017, he served as a department head in the Saarland Ministry of Interior and Sport and managed the constituency office of Peter Altmaier. In addition to his parliamentary duties, he has served as the CDU faction leader in the Saarlouis city council since 2016. A former competitive athlete, Schäfer was a German champion in long-distance and obstacle running.
