Renee C. Burgess is an American politician currently serving as a member of the New Jersey Senate, representing the 28th legislative district. Appointed in 2022 to succeed Ronald Rice, she holds the distinction of being the first State Senator from Irvington. Prior to her legislative career, Burgess served on the Irvington Board of Education from 2002 to 2014 and was a member of the Irvington Township Council from 2014 to 2022, where she also served as council president. She currently serves on several key committees, including Budget and Appropriations, and Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens.
