Born in 1971 in Birmenstorf, he previously held a long-standing position on the City Council of Bern, where he served starting in 2009. A member of The Centre party, Nause successfully transitioned to federal politics after his election to the National Council in 2023. He is a dual citizen of Switzerland and Germany and is married with two sons.
