Rico Badenschier is a German politician and physician who has served as the Mayor (Oberbürgermeister) of Schwerin since 2016. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he previously worked as a neuroradiologist at the Helios Kliniken Schwerin. Before his election as mayor, he was a member of the Schwerin City Council. In September 2025, he announced his intention to resign from his mayoral office at the end of the year to return to his medical profession and citing political challenges.
