Riek Machar

Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon is a South Sudanese politician currently serving as the First Vice President of South Sudan. A prominent figure in the country's political and military history, he was a key leader in the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLA/M) during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Throughout his career, he has founded several splinter groups and militias, including the SPLM/A-Nasir and the SPLM-IO, which he currently leads. Following the 2018 revitalized peace agreement, he returned to the government to serve in his current capacity, aiming to navigate the nation's complex transition toward stability.
