Ritchie Torres is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 15th congressional district since 2021. Raised in public housing in the Bronx, he previously served on the New York City Council from 2014 to 2020, where he chaired the Committee on Public Housing and focused on issues such as predatory lending, housing conditions, and gig worker rights. Upon his election to Congress, he became one of the first openly gay Black men and the first openly gay Afro-Latino elected to the House of Representatives. Torres is known for his advocacy on urban policy and his vocal pro-Israel stance.
