Ruben Brekelmans is a Dutch politician currently serving as the parliamentary leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) in the House of Representatives. Previously, he served as the Minister of Defence in the Schoof cabinet from 2024 to 2026. Educated at Tilburg University, the London School of Economics, and the Harvard Kennedy School, Brekelmans began his career as a strategy consultant at The Boston Consulting Group before transitioning into government roles at the Ministry of Justice and Security and the Ministry of Finance. Throughout his political career, he has focused on foreign policy, defense, and migration, consistently advocating for increased military spending to meet NATO standards and a robust approach to European security in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
