A member of the Liberal Party, she has held various significant roles, including Secretary of State (Combatting Crime), Minister of Democratic Institutions, and Chief Government Whip. Before entering federal politics in 2015, Sahota practiced commercial litigation law in Cleveland, Ohio. She holds degrees in Political Science and Peace Studies from McMaster University and a law degree from Cooley Law School.
