Initially representing the Indian National Congress, he won multiple terms from the Mariani constituency starting in 2006. In 2021, he left Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, subsequently winning re-election in the subsequent by-election and later retaining his seat in the 2026 assembly election.
