Samir Kayande

Samir Kayande is a Canadian politician serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the constituency of Calgary-Elbow, representing the Alberta New Democratic Party. Elected in the 2023 Alberta general election, he made history by securing the first-ever victory for the NDP in this riding. As of June 2024, he serves as the Official Opposition critic for Finance, focusing on fiscal responsibility. Before entering politics, Kayande had a distinguished career as an engineer, business consultant, and energy analyst, specializing in the economic analysis of capital assets such as nuclear power, wind, solar, and oil sands facilities. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie-Mellon University.
