Sammy Mahdi

Sammy Mahdi is a Belgian politician who serves as the president of the Christian Democratic and Flemish (CD&V) party and as a member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. Born in Ixelles to an Iraqi father and a Flemish mother, he studied political science and international law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Mahdi previously served as the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration from 2020 to 2022, where he focused on migration policy and deportation efforts. He has been active in local politics in Vilvoorde and rose to national prominence through his leadership in the youth wing of his party before assuming the party presidency in 2022.
