室井照平

Shohei Muroi is a Japanese politician currently serving his fourth term as the Mayor of Aizuwakamatsu in Fukushima Prefecture. Born in Aizuwakamatsu, he graduated from Tohoku University before working in the banking sector and later managing his family business. Muroi began his political career as a member of the Aizuwakamatsu City Council and subsequently served as a member of the Fukushima Prefectural Assembly. First elected mayor in 2011, he has focused on municipal administration and local economic development, including implementing fiscal measures such as salary reductions for city officials during the COVID-19 pandemic.
