Masato Shimizu is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Gunma Prefecture constituency. He previously served as a member of the Takasaki City Council and the Gunma Prefectural Assembly, as well as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Since October 2025, he has served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Reconstruction. Politically, he is affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party and has expressed support for constitutional reform while maintaining a cautious stance on issues such as selective separate surnames for married couples.
