Rokuta Shimono is a Japanese politician and former educator currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Before entering national politics, he spent 30 years as a junior high school physical education teacher, where he gained recognition for developing the 'Shimono-style' sports instruction method. Elected to the House of Councillors in 2019, he has focused his legislative work on education reform, child-rearing support, and the promotion of 'agriculture-welfare collaboration.' He previously served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries under the second Kishida Cabinet. Shimono is a member of Komeito and continues to advocate for policies addressing school absenteeism and the expansion of public night schools.
