Shockat Adam is a British politician, businessman, and optometrist who has served as the Member of Parliament for Leicester South since 2024. Born in Malawi and raised in Leicester, he worked as an optometrist and director of Sask Optics before entering politics. Elected as an independent candidate, Adam gained national attention for his focus on the Gaza conflict, the housing crisis, and the National Health Service. In September 2024, he became a founding member of the Independent Alliance, a parliamentary group aimed at providing a political alternative to the major parties. He has been a vocal advocate for the recognition of the State of Palestine and has actively participated in parliamentary efforts to address social welfare issues, including the two-child benefit cap.
