Seiji Hamada is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as the Governor of Kochi Prefecture. Born in Nakamura City (now Shimanto City), he graduated from the University of Tokyo and began his career in the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1985. Over the following decades, he held various administrative roles, including positions in the Kyoto and Fukuoka prefectural governments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and as Vice Governor of Osaka Prefecture. In 2019, he was elected as the 20th Governor of Kochi and was subsequently re-elected in 2023. As governor, he has focused on regional development and crisis management, notably implementing measures to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
