Simita Kumar is a Scottish politician currently serving as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Edinburgh South Western, having been elected in 2026. Born in Fiji to an Indo-Fijian family, she immigrated to the United Kingdom at age 17. Before her election to the Scottish Parliament, she served as a councillor for Southside/Newington on the City of Edinburgh Council, where she made history as the first ethnic minority woman to lead the SNP group. In May 2026, she was appointed Minister for Equalities and International Development in the Scottish government.
