Steve Scalise is an American politician serving as the House Majority Leader since 2023 and as the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 1st congressional district since 2008. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held leadership roles including House Majority Whip and House Minority Whip. Before his congressional career, Scalise served in the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana State Senate. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and is known for his conservative policy stances and his survival of the 2017 Congressional baseball shooting.
