Previously, she held the position of Lord Mayor of Hobart from 2014 to 2018 and served as the Speaker of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 2018 to 2021. Originally a member of the Liberal Party, she transitioned to an independent status in 2021. Before entering politics, Hickey had a diverse career in marketing, television broadcasting, and business, notably winning the Tasmanian Businesswoman of the Year award in 2007.
