Hitoshi Takezume is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Democratic Party for the People. Born in Yamagata Prefecture, he graduated from Keio University and began his career at Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). He held various leadership roles within the TEPCO labor union and the Federation of Electric Power Related Industry Workers' Unions of Japan. Additionally, he served as a diplomat at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand. Elected to the House of Councillors in 2022 as an organizational candidate for the power industry, he has faced public scrutiny regarding the use of his research and public relations funds for personal expenses, including medical checkups and clothing.
