Tamara Smith is an Australian politician who has served as the Member for Ballina in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since 2015. As a member of the Greens, she made history as the first non-conservative to represent the Ballina area in 88 years and the first regional Greens MP to hold a lower house seat in Australia. Before entering parliament, she worked as a secondary school teacher and a solicitor. Her political career has been defined by advocacy for environmental protection, public education, and social justice, including opposition to coal-seam gas exploration in the Northern Rivers region.
