Previously associated with the Indian National Congress and the Trinamool Congress, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2024. Throughout his career, he has served as a municipal councillor, a state minister, and briefly as the Pro-Tem Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
