He holds the position of Cabinet Minister for Industry, Commerce & Enterprises, Public Enterprises & Industrial Reconstruction, and Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources. Previously associated with the Indian National Congress and the Trinamool Congress, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2024. Throughout his career, he has served as a municipal councillor, a state minister, and briefly as the Pro-Tem Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
