Tarek Mitri is a Lebanese academic, independent politician, and government official currently serving as the Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon as of February 2025. A scholar with a PhD in political science from the University of Paris X, he has held numerous high-level academic and diplomatic positions, including President of St George University of Beirut and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General. Between 2005 and 2011, he served in four successive Lebanese governments, holding portfolios in culture, information, environment, and administrative reform. Mitri is a noted advocate for Lebanese unity, intellectual freedom, and interreligious dialogue.
