Tawna Sanchez

Tawna Sanchez is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives, representing the 43rd district in north-central Portland. Of Shoshone-Bannock, Ute, and Carrizo descent, she is the second Native American person elected to the Oregon legislature and the first to represent Portland. Before her election in 2016, she worked extensively with the Native American Youth and Family Center and served on various state commissions, including the Oregon Child Welfare Advisory Commission. In the legislature, she has held leadership roles such as co-chair of the Joint Ways and Means Committee.
