Tjapko Poppens is a Dutch politician currently serving as the mayor of Amstelveen, a position he has held since May 2019. Born in the province of Groningen, he studied agricultural and environmental economics at Wageningen University. Before his mayoral career, he worked in management at KLM and held administrative roles in the municipality of Enschede. Poppens served as a municipal councillor in Deventer from 2005 to 2012 and as the mayor of Wijk bij Duurstede from 2012 to 2019. He is a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).
