Born in Beatrice, Nebraska, he earned a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln before working as an industrial engineer. In the legislature, he chairs the Natural Resources Committee and serves on several other committees. Politically, Brandt is a conservative who identifies as pro-life, opposes gender-affirming care for minors, and supports permitless concealed carry for firearms.
