Vanessa Summers is an American politician serving as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing the 99th District since 1991. She was appointed to the seat following the death of her father, Joseph W. Summers, and has since won multiple re-elections. In 2012, she made history as the first woman and the first African-American to lead the Indiana House Democratic Caucus. Beyond her legislative work, she has been involved in healthcare advocacy, including the Diabetes Prevention Program and the Amazing Grace Healthcare Coalition.
