Vernon Coaker is a British politician and life peer who has served as the Minister of State for Defence since 2024. A member of the Labour Party, he previously served as the Member of Parliament for Gedling from 1997 to 2019. Throughout his career, he held several government and shadow cabinet positions, including Minister of State for Policing, Crime and Security, and Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Coaker, who began his career as a teacher, was introduced to the House of Lords in 2021 and remains active in national politics.
