Viriato Fernandes is an Indian politician, social activist, and former Indian Navy officer currently serving as a Member of Parliament for South Goa in the Lok Sabha. A mechanical engineer by training, he served in the Indian Navy for 26 years, participating in critical operations including the Kargil War. Following his retirement in 2017, he became a prominent environmental activist and founding member of the NGO Goencho Avaaz. He entered formal politics in 2021 by joining the Indian National Congress and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2024.
