Wasantha Samarasinghe

Wasantha Samarasinghe is a Sri Lankan politician, trade union leader, and activist currently serving as the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development. A member of the National People's Power (NPP), he represents the Anuradhapura District in the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Samarasinghe has a long history of involvement in student politics and the labour movement, having previously served as a leader in the Inter-University Student Power Council and as Chairman of the Inter-Company Employees' Union. Known for his anti-corruption advocacy as the convener of the Anti-Corruption Voice Organization, he was re-elected to Parliament in 2024 with the highest number of preferential votes in his district.
