William Sharer is an American politician serving as a Republican member of the New Mexico Senate, representing the 1st district since 2001. Born in Albuquerque and raised in Farmington, he is a veteran of the United States Army, having served as an infantryman. Throughout his legislative career, Sharer has been a prominent conservative voice in the state, notably leading legal efforts against the legalization of same-sex marriage in New Mexico in 2013. He currently serves on the Corporations & Transportation and Conservation committees.
