Ya'akov Margi is an Israeli politician who has served as a member of the Knesset for the Shas party since 2003. Born in Morocco, he immigrated to Israel in 1962. Throughout his career, Margi has held several significant government positions, including Minister of Religious Services from 2009 to 2013 and Minister of Welfare and Social Affairs from 2022 until 2025. Before his national political career, he served as the chairman of the religious council in Beersheba and as the director general of Shas. In May 2026, he announced that he would not seek re-election to the Knesset.
