Yana Toom

Yana Toom is an Estonian politician who has served as a Member of the European Parliament since 2014. Born to ethnic Russian parents, she became a naturalized Estonian citizen in 2008 and has been a prominent figure within the Estonian Centre Party. Throughout her tenure in the European Parliament, she has focused on regional development, petitions, and the rights of traditional minorities. Although she has been elected to the Riigikogu on multiple occasions, she has consistently chosen to maintain her seat in the European Parliament. Her political career has occasionally drawn controversy, including her involvement in diplomatic missions to Syria and her support for legal aid for stateless persons in Estonia.
